Bonding and Tooth-colored fillings
Bonding is simply adding a little tooth-colored composite material to "fill in the blanks." One of the most frequent uses of the bonding technique is to fill in a gap between front teeth. It involves the direct application of tooth-colored composite resin and is typically used to create a more attractive smile.

Before: A noticeable space between the front teeth.

After: Bonding fills the space, but still keeps the teeth looking natural.
This single visit procedure is a fast solution to an attractive smile. Bonding can be applied to the shape of your tooth to reveal a more symmetrical and space free smile. Although bonding may not be as long lasting as porcelain veneers or crowns, in can last for a number of years with proper care. Bonding is a good alternative to mask tooth stains and discolorations that are resist professional tooth whitening.
Porcelain Veneers or "Instant Ortho"
Veneers are a thin, semi-translucent custom biocompatible laminate material permanent porcelain facings that are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth to whiten teeth, close spaces, straighten teeth, or repair chipped or worn teeth. The veneers are only about 1 mm thick (the thickness of a fingernail). That same thickness is “shaved” off the natural tooth surface so when the veneer is bonded to the tooth, the tooth doesn’t feel or look “thicker”. Veneers have the ability to change the color, size, shape, and alignment of a tooth.
While they're not suitable for every patient, veneers are the most aesthetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions involving the front teeth, permanently stained teeth, crocked teeth, chipped, broken teeth, diastemas. A natural look is The procedure takes only two appointments and a minimal amount of tooth structure is removed during the procedure.

Before: Discoloration on front teeth and teeth are uneven in length.

After: Veneers return the natural, healthy glow! Teeth are now lengthened evenly.
Back to topExceptional Teeth Whitening

Tooth Whitening is actually a mild bleaching process that restores stained or discolored teeth to a healthy, natural color. Bayview Village Dental uses advanced procedures to give you the best results based on your oral health condition.
Tooth discoloration is caused by a number of reasons:
• Frequently drinking coffee, tea or pops.
• Some antibiotics may darken developing teeth in children.
• Aging - the dentin underneath the enamel of a tooth gradually darkens with age.
• Use of tobacco products.
• Accidents – If a tooth has been traumatized, sometimes the nerve will gradually “die”, and the tooth becomes dark.
Tooth Whitening provided by a dentist is the safest and fastest way to a whiter, brighter smile. We offer 2 options to fit into your lifestyle. Our team will evaluate your teeth and smile to determine whether whitening is right for you. In some cases a different cosmetic procedure may better meet your expectations, but whitening is a safe, fast and easy process that is effective for almost everyone!

The Zoom!® light activated gel was developed after years of research by Discus Dental, the leaders in professional take-home tooth whitening. The gel is scientifically formulated, pH balanced Hydrogen Peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom!® light, gently penetrates the teeth only to remove deep stains and discoloration, while leaving the structure of the tooth unchanged. With proper care and on occasional touch up at home, your whiter smile will sparkle for years. The effects typically last several years. Many patients choose to "touch-up" their teeth every 6 to 12 months by applying the treatment for 1 or 2 nights. "Touch-ups" are especially useful for patients that drink beverages that stain teeth, like coffee, tea, and pops. Some patients may experience heightened tooth sensitivity to cold, or mild tooth or gum sensitivity during treatment, but these symptoms are only temporary and disappear within a few days.
Crowns & Bridges
Crowns
Crowns (or caps) are dental restorations that are placed over a tooth when conservative restorations are insufficient to restore form and function. Crowns address aesthetic needs, restore tooth function, and enhance the overall health of your mouth. In cases where teeth have large broken down fillings, a crown can protect and preserve the remaining natural tooth. To enhance your smile a metal-free, tooth colored crown can also replace an older metal/porcelain crown. A crown fits over the entire top of the tooth above the gum line. Crowns cover, protect, seal and strengthen a tooth when a filling will not work. A crown may be made of white porcelain, gold or porcelain fused to gold. Following root canal therapy, a crown is typically placed over the remaining tooth structure to preserve aesthetic and tooth function. At Bayview Village Dental we offer the service of our CEREC 3D ® (one visit in-office manufactured crown) or a laboratory manufactured crown (multiple in office visits). It is also important to book regular checkups, at an interval determined through collaboration with your Bayview Village Dental health professionals, to determine your best course of treatment based on your individual dental health needs.
There are many situations that may call for a crown:

Large Decay – If a tooth has decay so deep and large that a filling will not stay, or if the tooth structure is weakened, a crown must be placed on the tooth to save it.

Large old fillings – When large old fillings break down, or get decay around them, they usually need to be crowned. It is important to crown a tooth that has been structurally weakened to prevent a cracked or broken tooth. Once a tooth breaks, it may not be possible to save it.

Cracked Tooth – When a tooth is cracked, a filling will not seal the crack. A crown has to be placed over the tooth to hold it and the crack together. If a crown is not placed on the tooth, the tooth will become sensitive to chewing pressure, or will eventually break. It is important to crown a cracked tooth before it breaks, because in some cases a broken tooth cannot be crowned and must be extracted.

Broken or Fractured Tooth – A tooth that has broken is usually too weak to hold a filling. A crown will hold the tooth together and prevent it from breaking again. If the fracture involved the nerve, Root Canal Therapy may be required before the tooth is crowned. In some cases, a broken tooth cannot be saved and must be extracted.
Root Canal Therapy - A tooth that has undergone Root Canal Therapy will need a crown to properly seal and protect the tooth. A tooth with Root Canal Therapy is more brittle than a tooth with a healthy nerve and blood supply. A crown provides the necessary support to the tooth.
Back to topBridge
A bridge serves to replace a missing tooth or teeth. A permanent Bridge is usually anchored to the teeth on both sides of the space from the missing tooth. This gives the bridge strong support. A permanent Bridge is permanently bonded in place, unlike a Partial Denture (sometimes called a “removable bridge”), which is removable. In cases where teeth are missing, a bridge prevents the remaining natural teeth from shifting so that dental health and facial aesthetics are not compromised. Bridges may also provide a permanent, non-removable alternative to removable partial or full dentures. Whether supported by natural teeth or implants, bridges can offer life-like aesthetics and stable chewing surfaces. Bridges can also be supported by dental implants. Bridges keep teeth from drifting into the space created from a missing tooth and it also helps preserve normal function and normal bite for the jaw joint. Brushing a bridge is no different than brushing natural teeth, but special flossing instructions are required to keep the bridge and surrounding tissue healthy.
It is also important to book regular checkups, at an interval determined through collaboration with your Oakville Dental health professionals, to determine your best course of treatment based on your individual dental health needs.
Cerec 3D®
CEREC 3D® is the greatest technological advancement in dentistry to date in restoration process, it limits the time you spend in the dental chair. It enables porcelain restorations to be completed in just one visit. No oral impressions for laboratory work, the impression of your teeth is taken digitally with a camera and the restoration is then designed and milled in-office. CEREC 3D® restorations lasts several years and fit and wear like natural teeth.
Dentures
When most or all your natural teeth have been lost, dentures provide many benefits:
• Restore your self-esteem
• Regain your ability to eat
• Restore speaking ability
• Give support back to the lips and cheeks – giving you a natural and younger appearance
A Complete Denture is placed in the patient’s mouth after all the teeth have been extracted and the gum tissue has healed. An Implant Denture uses implants as anchors to hold the denture in place. A Partial Denture or removable bridge replaces one or more missing teeth, but there must be teeth remaining for the partial to attach to. Unlike a Fixed Bridge, a partial is removable. A partial will prevent other teeth from shifting, preserving your remaining teeth. Your dentist will evaluate your condition and needs to help you determine the option that is best for you.
Root Canal Therapy

When the nerve of a tooth becomes infected or abscessed, Root Canal therapy is the only way to save the tooth. A tooth can become abscessed as a result of deep decay, a cracked tooth, or trauma to the tooth. The only alternative to Root Canal Therapy is an extraction. During Root Canal Therapy, the tooth is “numbed” (just like having a filling.) Then the unhealthy nerve is removed and medication is placed in the tooth to treat the bacterial abscess (infection). After the infection is removed and treated, a filling is placed in the roots where the unhealthy nerve was. A tooth that has undergone Root Canal Therapy is more brittle and must be crowned to give the tooth sufficient strength. The tooth is cared for in the same way as other natural teeth. Brush and floss daily, and visit your dentist for regular preventative dental check-ups.

Implant

Restoration
Modern dental implants allow us to recreate your natural smile. Dental implants allow us to recreate your natural smile in a broad range of situations, from securing anchors for dentures to replacing a single tooth. Used to replace one or more missing teeth, implants are another alternative to conventional bridges and dentures. Dental implants allow you to speak and eat with comfort and confidence without sacrificing the quality of your other teeth. The implant is surgically replaced into the jawbone where it replaces the natural tooth root. The primary limiting factor inherent in implant therapy is the amount of bone available to receive and support the implant. If it's determined that a patient does not have enough bone to support an implant restoration, bone grafting procedures may be considered. Heavy smoking and some medical conditions may preclude the use of implant therapy.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
Step One: The gum is gently folded back and a space is prepared for the implant to be placed.

Step Two: The dental implant "anchor" is put into place.

A dental implant restoration consists of a bio-compatible titanium screw and post topped by a crown bridge or denture.
Step Three: A temporary cap is placed on the implant and the gum tissue is repositioned around the implant. The implant is left alone for several months so the bone can attach to the implant and create a secure anchor.

Restorative Phase:
Step One: After the implant has had a chance to attach to the bone tissue, the temporary cap is removed from the anchor and a post is attached to the anchor.

Step Two: The implant is now ready for a prosthesis. An impression is taken of the implant and the appropriate prosthesis (crown, bridge or overdenture) is made.

Step Three: The prosthesis is then attached to the implant(s).

In a few months, the implant securely attaches to the bone, allowing it to with stand biting and chewing forces just like a healthy, natural tooth. Speak to one of our dental professionals today to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® is the “invisible” way to straighten your teeth without wearing conventional metal braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable custom-made aligners to move your teeth. Because you remove your aligners before you eat and drink, there are no food restrictions or problems with flossing or brushing. This technology is also more comfortable, avoiding the mouth abrasions that can be caused by the metal and wires of conventional braces. And this technology is also more convenient, since you are likely to spend less time in the doctor’s office getting adjustments.
